Heat shields are barriers installed between two objects designed to reduce the heat transfer from one to the other. Most are custom built and use layers of air with non-combustible dividers. Depending on the design you can reduce clearances from 33% to 66%. The goal is to keep combustibles as cool as possible so they don’t off gas, dry out, and hit their flash point.
