Glass may all look the same but it can be significantly different. Tempered glass commonly found on decorative appliances such as fireplace doors & light duty gas fireplaces can only withstand temperatures of up to 500 degrees. When subjected to conditions beyond its abilities the product may shatter. On the other hand ceramic glass commonly found in wood stoves or heater rated gas fireplaces is rated at up to 1400 degrees.
