Pointing is the art of restoring the joints between any masonry unit such as brick, stone, block, or flagstone. The joints have to be prepared properly by grinding or chipping away at the degrading material, removing the dust, and then replenishing it with new mortar. Mortar is either made up of Portland cement, lime, & sand or Natural hydraulic lime & sand. The color & ratios of both the cement & sand play a role in the final color & strength.
